My hall is rectangular. the dining area adjoins the living area. i have added a slight seperation by adding two pillars on two ends forming a slight arc. wondered whether adding a delicate ceiling cornice would further beautify the room but am concerned that the visual impact might make the room look smaller. Please advise asap. Thanks

I have tried a wire brush, scraping paint with my nails and also sanding block but nothing is helping!!
